Get a jockey’s-eye-view of what it’s like to be on the back of racehorse American Pharoah with this 360º video shot on GoPro HD Hero cameras

You’ll need to be viewing in Chrome or on mobile using the Kolor app to get the full effect of this awesome video showing what it’s like to be atop one of the fastest horses in the world.

The 360º video, shot on several GoPro HD Hero 4 cameras strapped to a racehorse jockey’s helmet, allows you to rotate the camera at will to explore your surroundings as the horse thunders around the track.

It was stitched together using GoPro’s Kolor app, which is available at kolor.com.

It’ll be even better if you’ve got access to a VR helmet or viewer, but it’s fun enough to play with just using the touchscreen on a phone.

American Pharoah is a thoroughbred racehorse who won the American Triple Crown (awarded to a horse that wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes) in 2015. He’s running around the Del Mar race track in California.

We’ve seen some nice ‘GoPro on animal’ footage before, most recently when an enterprising soul affixed one to the back of a turtle, but this is the first time we’ve been able to explore it in detail in 360º.

If you’re interested in seeing more from GoPro, we recently got hands-on with the new GoPro Hero 4 Session – a new lighter version of the ridiculously popular tough camera.
