Designed for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, the Tilta ES-T13 is an affordable lightweight cage and rig kit that is extremely well made
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera is one of the most popular cameras for enthuisat videographers. Its small body means that it can be taken virtually anywhere, but there are times that you’ll need a few accessories to get the best from it.
Step in the TiLTA ES-T13 cage that has been especially designed for the Pocket Cinema camera.
The kit includes:
• 1 x TiLTA BMPCC Cage
• 1 x Top Handle
• 1 x 15mm Rod Clamp with Quick Release.
• 2 x 300mm Aluminium rods
• 1 x HDMI Plug Protector
The cage is made from robust aluminium that fits very snuggly around the camera. This means that as well as adding a beautiful feeling wooden handgrip, it also affords some level of protection, surrounding the corners of the camera against the odd knock.
Everything you see in the images on this page is included in the box (except the camera, of course!) and it even includes the two hex keys and a screwdriver that are needed to bolt everything together. Assembling the cage and rails is very straightforward and will take a matter of minutes.
For ease of use the cage still allows access to the battery and SD card sockets on the bottom of the camera, athough it can be a little fiddly to try and remove the memory card. However, swapping out batteries with the cage in place isn’t a problem at all.
The top handle has a lovely wooden grip, which not only helps carry the rig, but also adds additional support whilst filming. The handle also has plently of 1/4inch accessory sockets, as well as two accessory shoes for lighting or a microphones. With the handle screwed in to the correct sockets on the top of the cage, (slightly off centre) the camera is perfectly balanced for holding in a single hand, which is really useful for low-angle following or panning shots.
There is, of course, a whole host of accessory mounting points all over the cage, but should you wish to add more, or make your rig even larger, the kit comes supplied with a baseplate with a rodclamp, and two 30cm rods. If you want to remove the cage from the rods, then a simple quick release mechanism means that they can be uncoupled in seconds.
The TiLTA cage also solves the problem of loose HDMI cables. A small clamp that can be attached to the side of the cage which can lock a micro HDMI to a female HDMI cable in to position. Better still this cable comes complete in the box.
There are numerous cheap and generic cages available for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera, but the TiLta cage takes it to the next level, but still at an affordable price. Sure, it isn’t the cheapest available, but everything from the cage itself to the wooden handles are beautifully well made and should last a life time.
If you are after a cage for your Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, then look no further than the TiLTA ES-T13. It will provide the ideal starting point for whatever accessories you want to use whilst shooting
