Lens maker Samyang has announced a new XEEN 20mm T1.9 lens that’s firmly aimed at professional video and cine use. The newcomer brings the range of XEEN cinema lenses up to eight, with the existing lenses being a 14mm, a 16mm, a 24mm, a 35mm, a 50mm, a 85mm and a 135mm.

The new XEEN 20mm is said to offer ‘outstanding image quality from resolving power for 4K+ production for filming video and cinema’.The XEEN 20mm T1.9 lens will be launched globally in March 2017 with a recommended retail price of £1799.99.

Different mount options
The 24mmx36mm negative size allows XEEN lenses to work with full-frame cameras, but they also operate with Super 35, APS-C, APS-H and APS-P cameras. All of the XEEN lenses are available in five different mounts – the ‘industry standard’ cinema PL mount, Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E and MFT. The XEEN lenses all have two different focus scales – metric and imperial units – and all focus and iris gear rings are identically positioned on the eight lenses to help to speed up any required lens changes.

The XEEN lens range series made its debut in 2015 and is designed for the ultra-high definition video environment with optical performance for 4K productions and above. The lenses feature X-Coating Technology and 11 aperture blades that help to create ‘beautiful and round’ bokeh in footage.
