It is the world’s first super 35mm digital film camera optimised for professional aerial cinematography

DJI senior product manager Paul Pan said: “From the large Super 35 sensor to a new mount, lenses, and color system, the Zenmuse X7 gives cinematographers and professional photographers an unmatched set of tools that work seamlessly with the DJI Inspire 2 drone to capture high-quality footage that is easily integrated into projects shot with industry-leading handheld cameras.”

The Chinese firm promises a Super 35mm video sensor with 14 stops of dynamic range. This would mean more detail in low-light conditions for filmmakers.

DJI claims that the Zenmuse X7 will capture the highest image resolutions ever for an integrated drone camera. Specifications say it will shoot 6K CinemaDNG RAW or 5.2K Apple ProRes at up to 30 fps. Alongside this, it can capture 3.9K CinemaDNG RAW or 2.7K ProRes at up to 59.94 fps. This high resolution footage is designed to integrate with industry-standard post-production workflows.

Lenses are available on the new camera with focal lengths of 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm. DJI promises that each lens has a maximum aperture of F/2.8 with the 16mm lens equipped with a built-in ND 4 filter.

The company has introduced colour technology with a new DJI Cinema Colour System, which aims for more flexibility and colour options during the post-production process.

The high tech camera is designed with professional videographers and filmmakers in mind so a professional price tag comes along with it. The DJI Zenmuse X7 camera will be priced at £2,699.

The company plans to start shipping in early November 2017 worldwide.
