The Video Mode went to day one of the BVE 2017 at ExCel London to discover some of the latest cameras, lenses and accessories that could help to enhance your creative filmmaking possibilities

The BVE show at London’s ExCel venue is the UK’s leading media tech event for the professional video and broadcast content markets but amongst the 100+ stands at the event The Video Mode sought out some of the key equipment that will have a wide appeal to amateur filmmakers…

Perhaps fittingly in the month that Canon is celebrating 30 years of its legendary EOS System a wide range of EOS DSLRs, Cinema EOS cameras and EF mount lenses was on show, including the CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS cine lens zoom lens. Canon’s Paul Atkinson spoke to The Video Mode to explain the benefits of the EOS C100 Mark II digital cinema camera for filmmakers who might be thinking of making the step-up from shooting video with DSLRs.

Elsewhere we took a first look at the upcoming eight-strong Sigma range of cine lenses and discovered how the Atomos range of monitor recorders can dovetail superbly with older cameras, allowing filmmakers to bypass the internal compression of such cameras. We also got a close-up demo of Rotolight’s versatile NEO lighting system for both video shoots and portrait stills and were introduced to X-Rite’s ColorChecker Passport Video for ensuring the correct exposure and colour balance in your video footage from the get-go.
