The Video Mode spoke to Matt Morais of Loki Camera Gear to discover the story of the compact and flexible LOKI one camera rig system and what it offers to filmmakers
The LOKI one… is it a cage? Is it a dolly? Is it a shoulder rig? Well, the answer to all of the above is ‘yes’. The LOKI one camera rig system is designed to be small enough to fit into a camera bag with all of the rest of your gear and yet flexible enough to add significant creativity to your video shoots. To find out more The Video Mode recently caught up with Matt Morais (Director, Loki Camera Gear) as he revealed the secrets of the system and how it can be used.
First off, it’s fair to say the rig should have a wide appeal to DSLR and mirrorless camera filmmakers as it is firmly aimed at them. The modular system allows for it to be swiftly switched from a shoulder rig set-up to a cage and the top bar of the cage allows for attaching accessories, such as monitors, microphones or external audio recorders. Another swift change of component parts will give you a table top dolly for steady and swift camera movement.
Matt Morais explains, “The LOKI one is about the size of a DSLR body or lens and the whole thing unfolds straightaway to give you a shoulder rig with three points of contact so you can get really nice, stable video. Life happens quickly and if you’re filming live events, weddings or a documentary, it’s important to be able to respond accordingly and not waste time moving your camera between different rigs and potentially missing a shot. The LOKI one adapts to you, not the other way around.”
The LOKI one has been precision machined from aircraft grade aluminium with steel rosettes on all the joints to help to ensure it won’t start slipping during that crucial shot. According to Loki Camera Gear the rig has already been field tested by British Army photographers and it should have an appeal to those looking for creative video shooting options but without the budget to invest in different single-purpose rigs.
